An overview of Lilavati Hospital
Lilavati Hospital and Research Center, located in Mumbai, is administered by the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust. The hospital has provided Mumbai with top-notch healthcare services since its opening in 1977, when its legacy was founded with just a few doctors. Currently, Lilavati Hospital is home to one of the best hospitals in India with advanced medical technology and internationally renowned doctors.
An overview of the Mehta family
With the opening of Lilavati Hospital, the GIFT city of Gujarat will have its own revolutionary mega-hospital, which will be run by members of the Mehta family in their respective posts. Mr. Kishor Mehta, Ms. Charu Mehta, Mr. Prashant Mehta,and Mr. Rajesh Mehta are the promoter of this project.
It all started when Mr. Kirtilal Manilal Mehta informed Mr. Kishor and Mrs. Charu Mehta of his ambitions to build a hospital in honor of his late wife Mrs. Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta in order to serve the people and create health facilities of high quality to the nation. He wanted his son and daughter-in-law to take permanent lifelong guardianship of the Lilavati Trust.
On February 7, 1907, Mr. Kirtilal Mehta, who grew up in the small hamlet of Palanpur, moved to Rangoon, Burma to work for the family business. Mr. Kirtilal Mehta has become a very independent and responsible adult due to the untimely death of his father. Mr. Mehta was an ambitious young businessman who established his own independent merchant ship in Mumbai and became a very successful retailer. His Majesty the King of Belgium’s famous “Office of the Order” distinction, which he was the first Indian to receive, was awarded to him in 1991 for his achievements in business. He also received many other honors and accolades for his success, including this one. Mr. Kirtilal Mehta also holds many other accolades, such as the Outstanding Exporter Award from the President of Israel and the Best Exporter Award from the Government of India.

When Diamond World asked the elder diamond dealer if he could reveal the secret to his enviable success, he smiled and replied, “It’s an open secret. In a simple word, it is honesty!
Going into detail, he revealed that telling the truth had been a lifelong principle for him and he was glad he could abide by it. When Diamond World asked him about his life’s ambition, he answered with satisfaction that, fortunately, everything he wanted had been granted to him and no ambition remained unfulfilled. “And then ?” I asked. Prompt came the answer,
“The purpose of my remaining life is to serve humanity without any consideration of caste or creed.
These are the words spoken by Mr. Kishor Mehta, the Permanent Lifetime Trustee.
Hospital set up
Mr. Kirtilal Mehta was a man with a visionary approach and a strong will. As soon as he decided to open a hospital, he gathered the Mehta family to help him achieve his dream. Mr. Kishor Mehta played a key role in getting involved in financial and other technical issues.

SEWA – The productive initiative of Charu Mehta
After Lilavati Hospital was running efficiently, Mrs. Charu Mehta moved quickly to introduce “SEWA”. The productive wing of the hospital, known as SEWA, attempts to help the less fortunate sections of society who are often denied access to basic medical care and treatment due to lack of of resources. Service Equality For The Welfare Of All, or SEWA, is an alternative to the Hindi term sewa or seva, which means “service.”
Apart from continuously assisting those in need, SEWA has made a significant contribution to the advancement of eye care in Maharashtra. When eye disorders were on the rise in the city a few years ago, SEWA helped patients in Maharashtra find the best therapies to alleviate and relieve their ailments and ailments. When the first eye bank was established by Lilavati Hospital in a private hospital in Mumbai and cornea donations were encouraged, Mrs. Charu Mehta and her team at SEWA accomplished what seemed impossible.
